We often hear the stories of the prominent touring professionals, but the journeymen have compelling back-stories, too. One such golfer is Gary Christian. Originally from England, Christian came to the United States to play collegiate golf at Auburn University in Alabama. He was far from heralded, and in fact was something of an ordinary college golfer – no All-American awards, no All-SEC awards…not even MVP of his own team. He graduated in 1995 and turned pro, but still there was nothing to indicate Christian would ever make it to the top levels of golf. Toiling on mini-tours for years, then eventually to the Web.com Tour, Christian finally earned his PGA Tour card for 2012 at the age of 41. His was a gradual ascent, and it took longer than most, but his story is also a lesson in perseverance. Christian suffered a knee injury in 2013 and in 2014 is just now returning to his professional career.
