SCOTTY MCALARNEY
Level II Member, Oliphant, Pennsylvania
|
The Diversity of our Membership
Most of us are lucky if we are gifted with one talent. For
Scotty McAlarney, a Level II member from Oliphant, Pennsylvania,
doing three things well seems to come almost naturally.
Scotty earned his USGTF Associate Member certification in 2004
while working in masonry. Today, he still does masonry, but also
keeps a busy teaching schedule three nights a week and also on
weekends at a local driving range. He gave nearly 400 lessons in
2006.
To be able to teach during the winter months, Scotty converted
his two-car garage into an indoor golf studio, complete with
video equipment and a launch monitor. He also has a bentgrass
short game area in his yard with an artificial turf green.
As if he’s not busy enough, Scotty also coaches the Mid-Valley
High School golf team, coaches at two junior camps, and plays in
a band. He uses his musical background in his teaching, to get
across the important aspects of tempo and timing to his
students.
Unfortunately, nerve damage to his left elbow has limited
Scotty’s playing in recent times. He’s currently contemplating
trying to learn the game left-handed. His perseverance is a
testament to what Associate Members are able to do with their
certification.
