I grew up in New
Orleans watching my father teach and manage the pro shop at New
Orleans Country Club in the late ’60’s and early ’70’s. Since
then, I have always been involved in golf in some way. When I
saw the opportunity to become a “certified golf teaching
professional®,” I jumped at the chance. Since my first training
session in 2005, I’ve been able to carve out quite a career.
I am lucky enough to
be a staff instructor at River Ridge Golf Complex in Eugene,
Oregon. We have programs for golfers of all ages and abilities.
My client list has grown over these last couple of years, which
keeps me quite busy. When I’m not involved with the junior
programs, I coordinate the Women’s Club and give women’s clinics
through the spring and summer. Our complex teaches the
University of Oregon recreational golf classes year round, which
adds to my teaching time.
Our complex is also
the home of The First Tee of Willamette Valley, which I have a
fantastic time helping with. April through July brings the most
exciting part of my job: I volunteer as the head coach for the
Special Olympics golf team in our area. What an awesome
experience!
All of this has been
made possible through my training with the USGTF. I cannot
picture myself doing anything else for the next 20+ years!
