Shell's Wonderful World Of Golf: Volume 28

Shell?s Wonderful World of Golf was a weekly television series that aired from 1962 through 1970. This video is a golf match between George Archer, Lee Elder and George Knudson played at Sao Fernando Golf Club, in Brazil and aired January 31, 1970. The Sao Fernando Golf Club is a 6,500 yard, par 70 design that was carved out of thick Brazilian rain-forest. Its tree lined fairways place an emphasis on driving. Anything off the fairway here can make for a long day. In a career that spanned 25 years, ?Big George? Archer won 12 PGA Tour events, including the 1969 Masters. He is currently one of the major forces on the Senior PGA Tour. Lee Elder joined the PGA Tour in 1967 and went on to win four PGA Tour events over the next 12 years. In 1975 he broke the color barrier by becoming the first black to compete in the Masters. George Knudson was Canada?s gift to the golfing world, and he represented them graciously. George was always considered one of the game?s finest ball strikers and put together 12 PGA Tour wins to prove it. He represented his country in nine World Cup competitions, winning the individual trophy in 1966.
