A lot of people are wondering who the next great American player will be, but one player has already put in his bid to be the one. Nick Watney, at age 30, has scored four PGA Tour victories and many more are sure to be on the way. Earlier this year, he captured the World Golf Championship event at Doral, and also won the AT&T National at Aronimink. Watney’s pace to the top of the game has been steady. He was a three-time All-American at Fresno State, and in 2005 qualified for the PGA Tour by being among the leading money winners on the previous year’s Nationwide Tour. His first victory came in 2007 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, and in 2009 he won the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines. His strengths are in driving the ball, where he is 7th in Total Driving (combining distance and accuracy) and 5th in Putting. He also is above average in virtually every statistical category, showing an all-around game that should hold up in all conditions.
