Works under the general direction of the Golf Enterprise Administrator to manage the operation of a nine-hole or eighteen-hole City golf facility and clubhouse, including the Food and Beverage, Golf Shop, and Maintenance Department. Supervises, interviews, hires, trains, and evaluates work performance of assigned Golf facility staff and makes assignments to ensure work meets established standards. Operates and audits daily the point of sale cash register to ensure accurate balancing of accounts. Prepares weekly and monthly financial reports and submits information to management for analysis to assist with planning and budgeting for the facility. Ensures that golf equipment and facility is available for daily operation and secured at closing. Ensures golf carts are stocked and functioning properly for daily operation and secured at closing. May be responsible for clubhouse rental for special events in order to generate revenue. Inspects condition of course and equipment and reports condition to Golf Administrator. Develops marketing programs to promote golf activities, including junior events, adult leagues, tournaments, and outings. Schedules and conducts golf tournaments. Maintains operating budget and prepares and submits budget proposals. Monitors vendor contracts and maintains inventory of golf shop. Arranges tee times, special events and monitors teeing rotations in a timely manner to accommodate participants. Assists assigned staff in displaying merchandise, providing quality service to golf patrons, cleaning and dusting displays and organizing the Golf Shop to generate revenue. Manages and maintains inventory of the Golf Shop and Food and Beverage Department. Participates in marketing events to increase public awareness of City golf activities by driving to various City/vendor offices and throughout the golf facility. Supervises and assists assigned staff with maintenance duties such as picking up trash, setting up driving ranges, and washing the golf carts. Conducts instructional lessons for golf patrons. Maintains Golf Shop and Food and Beverage records and employee time sheets.


Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Agronomy, Recreation or related field and five (5) years experience in golf operations, golf instruction, or customer services, inventory control and procurement in the restaurant and hotel industries or other customer industry locations, with three (3) of the five (5) years in a managerial/supervisory capacity; or any combination of experience or training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license as a condition of continued employment. Knowledge of the game of golf, including rules of the game and use of golf equipment, etc., is preferred. Experience in golf course operations, as well as PGA membership preferred.

The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from date of Employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire.
