GOLF TEACHING PRO%u00ae 64 WINTER 2O26STORIES FROM AROUND THE WORLD TRINIDAD & TOBAGO NEWS FROM TRINIDADAND TOBAGOIn Trinidad, golf is not what it used to be: a gathering of vibrant young people ready to play for country, home, and school. At present, there are no incentives or assessments in most training programs. Right now, if there are 25 junior 18-hole players, we are doing great, so someone has to go take the game to the young people. Right now, I am teaching the game at three primary schools with kids ages 8-12. It brings joy to me when I see the willingness to learn from these school kids. At each school, the attendance is about 25 per session. I teach on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:30 a.m. to about 12:00 noon. The sponsor for this program is the Rotary Club, which wrote a letter to St. Andrews Golf Club seeking permission for the kids to train on their compound. It was approved, and now the kids can advance their game on a real golf course. Let me add or say that St. Andrews has always supported the schools%u2019 programs. As I write this, school starts in a few days and I am yet to deliver the good news. Many thanks to the Rotary Club and St. Andrews for opening the doors of learning and doing something different, as these kids are my pride and joy. Before I say anything about golf in my country Trinidad, allow me to say greetings to all my family and friends at the USGTF and WGTF. By Anthony Benny, USGTF MemberAs I celebrate more than 20 years as a member of the USGTF, making valuable friends and contributions to this wonderful game of golf over the years, I look forward to many more.By Ricky Campbell, USGTF MemberGolf here in Trinidad and Tobago isn't where I would like it to be. We do have a lot of talented golfers, but I am not seeing the passion. In Tobago, along with the children of the RCGA, the Ricky Campbell Golf Academy is working on addressing such by encouraging them to practice with one thing in mind, that practice doesn%u2019t make perfection but permanence. I am challenging myself that in two years, one or two should be on the national team.
