GOLF TEACHING PRO%u00ae 09 WINTER 2O261. Putting RoutineTake time to develop a consistent practice routine. One drill that really helped me improve my putting was using the length of my putter as a guide. I%u2019d place nine balls at that distance and attempt to make every single putt. If I missed one, I had to start over. If I made them all, I%u2019d increase the distance and repeat the drill. This kind of challenge pushed me to stay focused and sharpen my skills.2. Balance and BreaksIt%u2019s important to put in the time and effort during practice and tournaments, but it%u2019s just as important to give yourself breaks. After hard work, treat yourself. Whether it%u2019s a small trip, hanging out with friends, or simply doing something fun that has nothing to do with golf. Stepping away helps you recharge so you don%u2019t feel burned out or tempted to give up the game. The Mental GameGolf is as much mental as it is physical. Long hours on the course, especially in high-level competition, can be exhausting. If you feel mentally blocked or physically drained, listen to your body and mind%u2014take a break when needed. Remember to enjoy the process: appreciate the game, the outdoors, and the opportunity to play. Don%u2019t take it too seriously. Be grateful, stay positive, and keep perspective.Golf won%u2019t just test your skills; it will open doors and teach you valuable lessons about discipline, perseverance, and work ethic. I hope these thoughts help you not only play better but also manage yourself both on and off the golf course.TEACHING POINTS ASTRID HUSSENJIANAlways practice with targets.Don%u2019t just hit balls aimlessly. Visualize real holes, imagine fairways and greens, and train your mind to see the shot before you swing.Start practice the right way.Begin with stretching, then move to short swings with a sand or pitching wedge, never jump straight to a 5 iron. Let your muscles warm up before building into full swings.Make short game your priority.Seventy percent of your practice should focus on chipping and putting. Place balls in front of you, switch clubs, and learn how different shots react, so you%u2019ll always know the right option on the course.Visualize every shot. The true secret of golf is visualization. See the shot in your mind first. (I%u2019ve had five holes-inone, and visualization was the secret to each one.)Dream big, stay consistent, and ask for help.Never be afraid to seek advice, guidance, or coaching. Consistency and humility are just as important as ambition.
