Description

The purpose of this position is to manage efficiently the operation of the Public Golf Course and employees.

Essential Functions:

Assists in management and operation of the golf course and assists the Head Golf Professional and the Director of Golf in assuring the course and facilities are ready to use daily.
Supports the Head Golf Professional and the Director of Golf with the purchasing of merchandise for the Pro Shop, snack shop items, and materials and equipment for the golf shop.
Keeps display areas stocked and clean in the golf pro shop, sells merchandise, and conducts daily business sales and accounting for cash at registers in the pro shop and the snack shop.
Opens and/or closes pro shop and club house daily.
Communicates with golf course maintenance staff regarding course conditions (i.e., cart path rule conditions, hole locations, chemical applications, etc.).
Supervises range and cart operations during scheduled shift.
Supervises starter/marshal operations during scheduled shift.
Assists and supervises subordinates in maintaining the club house and golf course grounds, scheduling and controlling tee times, and preparing tee sheets.
Supports in conducting and supervising special tournaments, youth programs, group golf clinics, and other programs designed to increase the public interest and participation in golf.
Assists in directing all play on the public golf course and instructs guests in course rules.
Effectively operates a point of sale terminal and personal computer and job-related software.
Responsible for accounting for collection of green fees and other fees, including making bank deposits and getting change.
Assists in preparing financial and other reports.
Ability to work six (6) days a week with weekend if needed.
Renders aid as needed, including administering CPR and using an AED device.
Safely operates a motor vehicle, including electric golf carts and trucksters.
Ability to monitor, evaluate, and make decisions concerning weather radar that could affect public safety while at a facility.
Performs other work as assigned.
Physical Demands:
Performs work that is standing, sitting, and walking; however, bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting and moving equipment and objects weighing up to 50 pounds is required on an intermittent basis.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience working in retail including inventory management, supervisory or closely related.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
Current CPR/AED certifications or the ability to acquire within six (6) months from date of hire.
Must have a valid driver’s license.

Health Insurance
Medical care and hospitalization benefits are available through Blue Cross Blue Shield of TN (BCBST). Employees may choose from either a PPO or HRA plan design based on which plan best serves their personal needs.
The City currently pays for 80% of the premium amount with the employees share paid on a pre-tax, tax-free basis.

Dental Insurance
Dental coverage is available through Delta Dental of Tennessee. The plan provide coverage for prevention of dental diseases and problems, designated restoration and repair procedures, and orthodontics.

Flexible Spending Account Benefit
The City has a Flexible Spending Account Benefit (Section 125 Cafeteria Plan) allowing insurance premiums, medical expenses and dependent expenses to be paid with before tax dollars on an annual set aside basis.

Long Term Disability Benefits
Long Term Disability insurance is provided through Cigna to employees at no cost. In the event a full-time employee becomes totally disabled, after a 90-day elimination period, the employee shall be entitled to receive monthly disability benefits equal to 60% of the employee’s pre-disability monthly compensation.
Life Insurance

Life and AD&D insurance is provided through Minnesota Life at no cost to the employee. Full-time employee’s named beneficiary will be paid basic life insurance benefits in the amount of two times the employee’s annual earnings to the next $1,000. Accidental Death and Dismemberment is equal to the amount of the employee’s life insurance.
Voluntary Term Life is available to employees, spouses and their eligible dependents. Premium amounts for the employees and spouses are based on age.

Annual Leave
Vacation is accrued per pay period at a rate of up to ten (10) paid days a year, based on hours worked, and then increases with years of service as follows:

After one complete year up to 10 working days
After five complete years up to 12 working days
After ten complete years up to 14 working days
After 15 complete years up to 15 working days
After 16 complete years up to 16 working days
After 17 complete years up to 17 working days
After 18 complete years up to 18 working days
After 19 complete years up to 19 working days
After 20 complete years up to 20 working days

Sick Leave
Sick leave is earned on a daily basis by regular, full-time employees who are actively at work (as defined by City polices). Firefighters earn up of 12 hours of sick leave per month; all other employees can earn up to 1 day per month. Sick leave accrues without limitation.

Employee Assistance Program
An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through LifeServices is available at no cost. Employee and eligible family members are each provided up to 6 visits per episode per contract year beginning January 1st.

Retirement
Employees hired after 7/1/2010 are required to participate in a 401(a) by contributing a mandatory 3% pre-tax deferral amount administered by ICMA-RC. The City match amount is 3%. A 457 plan through ICMA-RC is also available for employees who want to contribute an additional amount on a voluntary basis. The maximum amount of contribution on the 457 cannot exceed $17,000 annually. The City will provide an equal match for an employee’s voluntary 457 contribution for up to 5% of salary. The total City’s match amount will not exceed 8% for the 401(a) and 457 combined.
The City’s normal retirement age is 55 for police officers and firefighters and 65 for all other employees. Employees with 30 years of service who are 55 years old are also eligible for normal retirement. Early retirement benefits are available at age 55 and 25 years of service or age 62 with 20 years of service.
