USGTF veteran teaching professional Keith Dunkelbarger, from Pekin, Illinois, won the 4th annual Central Region Championship on August 21st at Renwood Golf Course in suburban Chicago.  Dunkelbarger, a former collegiate player at Indiana State University, finished third in last year’s event.   Dunkelbarger fired a 3-over 75 over the extremely tight layout at Renwood, besting last year’s runner-up, Charlie Henry, of Caseville, Michigan, by one stroke.   Seventeen USGTF professionals entered the tournament – 10 from Illinois, three from Wisconsin, and two from Michigan. Indiana and North Dakota were also represented.   The top 6 scores were:
Keith Dunkelbarger Pekin, IL 75
Charlie Henry Caseville, MI 76
Bonnie Hawkins New Albany, IN 77
Chris Martineson Sawyer, ND 77
Joe DeLorenzo Elk Grove, IL 81
James Stedt Park Forest, IL 81

In the Pro-Am event held on Saturday, 14 four-person teams rounded out the field.  Most of the amateurs were club members at Renwood.  The format was best two balls of four using 50% handicap.   A, B, and C players were drawn at random and assigned to one of 14 professionals.   Two teams tied for 1st place at 19 under par – Tom Brockman (Marshfield, Wisconsin) and Henry were the USGTF professionals.     Low professional scores were:
Brad Rouse Host PGA Pro at Renwood 71
Chris Martineson Sawyer, ND 74
Mike Perez Host USGTF Pro at Renwood 75
Charlie Henry Caseville, MI 76
Keith Dunkelbarger Pekin, IL 77
Katie Fulton Peoria, IL 77
Chris Thompson W. Bloomfield, MI 79
Next year’s event will return to Renwood GC, where USGTF member and Hall of Fame honoree Mike Perez teams beautifully with PGA head professional Brad Rouse.   For more information on Central Region activities, please e-mail Henry at clh3@comcast.net.
