Veteran USGTF competitor Ed Williams captured the first USGTF Northeast Region Championship, played August 11 at Jack Frost National Golf Club in Blakeslee, Pennsylvania, shooting a 78 to hold off Ingrid Narken and John Savage by two strokes.   Twenty-seven USGTF members competed on a difficult course in difficult conditions, as the course was wet with high winds buffeting the players.  Jim Grow fired an 82, and at 83 were Andrew Pierson, Bruce Chamberlain, and Ken Long.  Participant Gary Vilano remarked, “The Northeast regional run by John Savage was outstanding,”  and other participants concurred with that sentiment.   Harman Takes Southeast Crown   Mark Harman won the USGTF Southeast Championship with a 3-under-par effort of 141. Carlos DeBarros, last year’s co-winner, finished second with a total of 153. This was the fifth playing of the Championship at the Wildwood Resort course, which has become a favorite of the Southeast Region. Harman has been on top in all five events and certainly deserves the title of “The Man” as it pertains to this section.   Mike Stevens, region director, convened the chapter’s annual meeting at the Backwoods Restaurant in Sopchoppy as part of the weekend’s activity. It was decided that Wildwood would continue as the site of the region championship. The resort has always been most hospitable to our group, and the course is an excellent test. Special thanks to Ken Medeiros who came down from New England to participate in the championship.
